Bio
WSHW geek in the northeast US. Works in the vagina field. Plays with pigs for fun on the weekends, known to cuddle calves who think they're dogs. Loves music, and going to great shows. Super liberal, feminist, and geeky. This journal is mostly friends-only, but I'll probably let you in if you ask nicely on my public entry.

If you are visiting my info page in regard to my position as a member of the maintainer team for vaginapagina - please email jen@vaginapagina.com or visit contact_vp. Do not bring VP business into my personal journal or any other email address.

I am also a moderator for womenhealth and birthcontrolled- if you would like to contact me in regard to either community, please email jennifer0246@livejournal.com.

"Grown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: 'What does his voice sound like?' 'What games does he like best?' 'Does he collect butterflies?'. They ask: 'How old is he?' 'How many brothers does he have?' 'How much does he weigh?' 'How much money does his father make?' Only then do they think they know him." -The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery

every woman should have
the freedom to fuck up
the freedom to not care
and most importantly,
the knowledge that even if you fail at:
relationships
friendships
careers
dinner parties
financial planning
or having a good skin care regime
your worth remains immeasurable
and it is not defined by the things you accomplish or own
- hallelujah in feminist, here.

Liberal mission statement
We are dedicated to justice, freedom, fairness, and honesty. We believe in educating our children and re-educating those of our community who have fallen behind. We believe that when we help everyone to succeed, everyone benefits. We believe that everyone deserves health care, clean water, and a fair trial. We believe that the government should be lifting people out of poverty, not policing their bedrooms. We believe that human rights shouldn't be based on one's sexual orientation, race, or religion. We believe that the tax system needs to be reformed so that it helps working families instead of lavishly benefiting the super-rich. We believe government should pay for what it buys. We believe in getting corruption out of our government, our voting system, and American business. We believe in being a good world citizen, instead of the neighbor no one wants. We believe in protecting our seniors. We believe in protecting our children. We believe in our fellow citizens. We believe in our country.
We don't just SAY "no child left behind." We don't just TALK about justice for all. We mean it. We want to see it happen.
33% of children in poverty. 45 million Americans without health insurance. Girls aborting via baseball bat. Unemployment is rising, wages are falling, jobs are being outsourced, our trade deficit is huge, our national deficit is terrifying. Every other country in the world thinks we are arrogant, dangerous, evil, or all three.
It's up to us. It's up to you. Are you acting yet? - eyelid, with permission.

"If feminism is a movement to end sexist oppression and depriving females of reproductive rights is a form of sexist oppression, then one cannot be anti-choice and be feminist. A woman can insist she would never choose to have an abortion while affirming her support of the right of women to choose and still be an advocate of feminist politics. She cannot be anti-abortion and an advocate of feminism." - bell hooks

"All decent people, male and female, are feminists. The only people who are not feminists are those who believe that women are inherently inferior or undeserving of the respect and opportunity afforded men. Either you are a feminist or you are a sexist/misogynist. There is no box marked 'other'." - Ani DiFranco

"I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control, and at times hard to handle, but if you can't handle me at my worst you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best" - Marilyn Monroe

Because woman's work is never done
and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or
repetitious and we're the first to get fired
and what we look like is more important
than what we do and if we get raped it's
our fault and if we get beaten we must have
provoked it and if we raise our voices we're
nagging bitches and if we enjoy sex we're
nymphos and if we don't we're frigid and if
we love women it's because we can't get a
"real" man and if we ask our doctor too many
questions we're neurotic and/or pushy and
if we expect childcare we're selfish and if we
stand up for our rights we're aggressive and
"unfeminine" and if we don't we're typical
weak females and if we want to get married
we're out to trap a man and if we don't we're
unnatural and because we still can't get an
adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk
on the moon and if we can't cope or don't
want a pregnancy we're made to feel
guilty about abortion and ... for lots and lots
of other reasons we are part of the
women's liberation movement.
